With little more than a week to go before their Spring 2010 show, Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez looked relatively calm as they took interviews before the premiere of Loic Prigent's documentary "The Day Before." (The four-part Sundance series takes viewers behind the scenes at Fendi, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel and Proenza Schouler.)

After cocktails at private club Norwood, a small group of journalists and industry insiders watched excerpts of the Proenza Schouler and Sonia Rykiel episodes. The audience chuckled in recognition and sighed in sympathy as Proenza's team tried to manage oncoming fashion disasters such as painting Italian handcrafted brown belts and bags black.

"You have something that exists in your head, and getting that abstract thought from your head into something that actually exists is a difficult process," Hernandez says. "We're not happy until it looks like what's inside of our heads."

Stylist Rachel Zoe, in towering heels, a glittering vest and harem pants, was in attendance, along with her assistant, Brad Goreski and her husband Rodger. While Zoe ducked out early, we cornered Goreski to ask about fashion disasters.

"My heart is still racing from seeing that film, " he said after the screening. Goreski endeared himself to fans of the reality show "The Rachel Zoe Project" by surviving various style emergencies, including flood waters that stained pricey gowns. "We're all united by these fashion disasters. It's nice to know that everything is heightened for everyone in this world."

After commenting on the height of Zoe's heels (6 inches? 7 inches? Only she knows), we asked Brad about our newest pet theory. This wouldn't work in the corporate world, but in fashion, is it true that the higher the heel, the bolder the name? "The higher the heel, the closer to god," he said knowingly.

"Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester commanded a sofa while wearing her own impressive set of Brian Atwood studded heels. When presented with the High Heel Theory, she laughed. "I like a high heel. That's how I roll," Meester said, adding that she walks often in big heels, even to do errands to the store. As for which fashion shows she's looking forward to this week, Meester could only confirm her attendance at Proenza Schouler, due to her work on the newest season of "Gossip Girl."
