Gossip Girl Threesome: Costume Designer Eric Daman on What to Wear, Leighton Meester Talks Music by Elva Ramirez
   Leighton Meester, Eric Daman

At the Swarovski-hosted fete in honor "Gossip Girl" costume designer Eric Daman at Gramercy Park Hotel's rooftop lounge, even the drinks were sparkly. Pink raspberry champagne cocktails were served on trays covered in loose colored stones, while music was piped in.

"Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester's vocals sang out twice, in Cobra Starship's "Good Girls Go Bad" and her solo song, "Somebody to Love." A clip of the "Somebody to Love" video aired during last week's episode, showing an aggressively sexy Meester wearing Proenza Schouler's show-closing Spring 2009 jumpsuit in the back of a limo. Were the uber-sexy clothes a way to metaphorically shed her good-girl onscreen persona? "It's just a wonderful expression of who I am," Meester said. "It's very over-the-top sexy, over-the-top fashion -- with music you can do that."

Daman, who was toasting the publication of his new style guide, "You Know You Want It," believes achieving the right look is "80% confidence, 20% style." "Everyone takes fashion so seriously," he said. "I see girls that get so dramatically upset that they have to take a Xanax because they can't have those shoes. You don't need those shoes."

But Daman still takes his fashion seriously. "I'm an artist. I like to paint with clothing," he said. He described a scene in which Chuck's lavender shirt and pink tie were set against Blair's soft pink blouse and lavender necklace. "It creates harmony between them but you don't realize it's because of the clothing."

Daman shrugged off the recent protests about the coming "threesome" episode, saying that what they show is still appropriate for television. He wouldn't budge on offering a single detail of what the characters in question wore to the assignation.

So we switched gears. What, hypothetically, should a person wear for a ménage à trois?

"Something that draws them in, be it cleavage or a nice sparkly necklace," he said, leaning into our own sparkly necklace. "But when the dress comes off, you have to represent what's under there."

Can a person wear Spanx?

"If you can be confident in your Spanx, then more power to you. Some guys find Spanx really sexy."
